NOTICE OF RACE

 

INTRODUCTION


The Harvest Festival (Kaamatan in “KADAZANDUSUN”) is for the various communities in Sabah to get together to celebrate the closing of the Paddy Harvest Season. This regatta was started in 1987, as the Sabah Fest as a contribution to the seasonal celebration, to give sailors an opportunity to compete and meet each other, and encourage sailors and visitors from outside Sabah to share the Festival with us.
 
1.  The Organiser, Kinabalu Yacht Club (KYC) has the pleasure in inviting sailors from various recognized Sailing Clubs to participate in the Harvest Festival & Sabahfest Open Regatta 2011 from the 28th & 29th May 2011 (Saturday and Sunday). 

 

This regatta has a Marathon Island Race and a separate Harvest Festival Series Races. Sail’a endorses this regatta as a ranking event for Sabah State Sailors.

 

2.  The venue shall be the Kinabalu Yacht Club and the races shall be conducted at the sea in front of Kinabalu Yacht Club and the nearby islands of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park.

 

3.  A minimum of 3 boats is required to make a class which shall be as follows:-

 

a.  Int. 470 Open
b.  Int. 420 Open
b.  Laser Full Rig Open
c.  Laser Radial Open
d.  Laser Radial Girls
e.  Laser 4.7 Open
f.   Laser 4.7 Girls
g.  Sailboards
h.  Optimist Div. A (born 1996-1998), Div. B (born 1999-2000), Div. C (born 2001 and later)
i.   Novice Class (Any Sailors who has not taken part in any 3 major regattas - Sabah Sailors Only)

 

4.  The respective class rules apply, together with the ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012, the Sailing Instructions, this Notice of Race and rule changes on the Official Notice Board.

 

5.  Entry forms must be submitted before the 16th May 2011.  Late entries shall be accepted at the discretion of KYC.

 

6.  Registration shall be on 27th May 2011 (Friday) from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon and on 28th May 2011 (Saturday) from 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.  Acceptance of registration outside of these times shall be at the discretion of KYC.

 

7.   The registration fee is RM70.00 per participant except for Optimist is RM50.00.

9.   The programme:

27th May 2011 (Friday) 

 

1000-1200 hrs  -  Early Registration.

 

28th May 2011 (Saturday)

 

0800 hrs  -  Registration, boat allocation and rigging.
0930 hrs  -  Race Briefing.
1000 hrs  -  The Marathon Island Race in Tunku Abdul Rahman Park around the Manukan, Sulug or Mamutik Island (Handicap PY).
                  For Dinghies; (decision based on wind condition of the day).
                  For Optimist; (decision based on wind condition of the day).
                  Lunch provided on land or water.
1300 hrs  -  Start of Harvest Festival Series Races for Optimist, Lasers, Laser 4.7., Int. 470s. Int. 420s & Sailboards.
1800 hrs  -  Light Refreshment

 

29th May 2011 (Sunday)
 
0930 hrs  -  Rigging of boats.
1000 hrs  -  Continuation of Harvest Festival Series Races for Optimist, Lasers, Int. 470s., Int. 420s & Sailboards.
                  Lunch provided on land or water.
1230 hrs  -  Continue racing.
1500 hrs  -   End as many races as possible. Target minimum 5
1700 hrs  -  Prize Giving and Closing Ceremony with Tea Party.

 

11.  There shall be a rule in the Sailing Instructions requiring all competitors to wear a buoyancy aid while afloat or racing.  The Organisers regret being unable to supply any buoyancy aids.  In addition, the Int. 470/420s allows the crew to trapeze.  The Organizers regret being unable to supply any trapeze harnesses.

 

12.  Class of boats and availability: Int. 470s, Int. 420s, Laser 4.7, Laser Full Rig, Laser Radials, Optimists and Trainer Optimists.

 

Boats provided are deemed to conform to Class rules.  No issued boats or any part may be changed during the entire regatta unless the Beach Master is satisfied that a replacement boat is required.  Entries may be rejected if a particular class is oversubscribed.  Early submissions of entries are encouraged to ensure boat availability. 

 

13.  The Boat Charter Fees are as follows (Standard Malaysian Charter Rates):-

 

Optimist without Sails  -  RM 100.00
Newer Optimists without Sails  -  RM 200.00
Laser / Laser Radial / Laser 4.7 without sails  -  RM 150.00
Newer Lasers without Sails  -  RM 250.00
Int. 470 / Int. 420s with Sails  -  RM 250.00
 
Boat Damage Deposit  -  RM 200.00 each refundable.

 

A Regatta discount may be offered at the discretion of the KYC Regatta Organizing Committee.

 

14.  Prizes:

 

Marathon Handicap Trophy shall be awarded to the Laser Full Rig / Laser Radial / Laser 4.7  or Int. 470s / Int. 420s that is first across the line corrected by the Modified Portsmouth Yardstick Handicap System (470=1000, 420= 1090, Laser=1080, Laser Radial=1110, Laser 4.7 =1180) and Top 8.

 

Optimist Trophy shall be awarded to the Optimist Winner of the Mini Marathon and the Top 8.

Participants compete entirely at their own risk and responsibility.  The organizers and any party involved in the organization of the event accept no liability whatsoever for any injury, damage, loss or claim, whether personal or material, incurred by or inflicted to participants before, during or after the event.

The organiser reserves the right to alter and change all or any events and programmes without assigning any reason and without any prior notice.
